Store Crucial Info on an App

In honor of National Elder Law Month, we wanted to highlight a helpful suggestion for seniors and their loved ones. Millions of American elders store information through their digital smartphone and tablet apps. Whether engaging in online banking, using a mobile plane boarding pass, or creating work calendars shared in the cloud, the internet of things offers easy connectivity. However, critical medical information, health care directives, and other essential legal documents often remain in older storage formats (such as in paper files or on-site at hospitals or medical offices).

ABA Recommendations

To protect digital data, the American Bar Association (ABA) website recommends an app called Mind Your Loved Ones (MYLO). This application provides access to critical information 24/7. What’s more, the app allows users to send info directly to healthcare providers. Options include insurance companies, doctors, hospitals, and trusted family members or friends, via email, text, fax, or print.

Information is not stored in the cloud but locally on the user’s tablet or smartphone for enhanced security.  A mobile app like MYLO falls under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) scope because it manages Personal Health Information (PHI). Critical information resides on your smartphone. And MYLO does not allow access to the user’s profile beyond an email address and registered name.

MYLO Uses

Store Files Elder Law in Cloud

Whether you travel for work or leisure, or live in a retirement community, the app securely stores family healthcare advanced directives. Also, it manages key medical info such as prescriptions, physician contacts, medical notes, and insurance info. The app makes it unnecessary to hunt for paper files or login to a website to obtain important information. Also, you can create unlimited profiles. Access to immediate information prepares your trusted agents to immediately answer difficult questions. For example, if you’re in an emergency room the app will provide info to your family members, leading to improved health outcomes. Because you can create as many profiles as you want, use MYLO to store info about yourself, your aging parents, spouse, siblings, children, and friends.

Each profile automatically generates reports available electronically to desired recipients. Insurance information includes copies of both sides of insurance cards, event notes, routine appointment times, prescription changes, activities of daily living, and vital signs. These can be maintained and measured over time. Further, a Dropbox is available to backup, share, and restore profiles. So, even accidentally a deleted or damaged profile is easily recovered.

Affordability

An annual subscription service to MYLO costs less than ten dollars. Other apps come in a format so you can carry your medical history and records on your phone. However, these apps do not combine legal documents as part of the offerings. MYLO offers ways to track medical, legal, and other information seamlessly in one app.
